Tech Lead & Product Manager (TPM)

Location: Venice, CA / U.S. Remote
Salary Range: $120k–$220k/year (flexible for the right candidate)

About AE Studio

We’re a Los Angeles–based software, data science, and design studio, building tech that increases human agency. We’re 100+ people strong, entirely bootstrapped, and driven by mission over hype.

We build products across web, mobile, AI, blockchain, and even brain-computer interfaces (BCIs). From startups to the Fortune 100, we tackle critical work that clients and society care about. Internally, we incubate ventures through our Skunkworks program — some of which spin out into standalone companies led by AE team members.

What You’ll Do

• Own and lead complex technical projects from discovery to delivery.
• Manage cross-functional teams, timelines, and stakeholder communications.
• Collaborate with designers, devs, data scientists, and founders to build and ship products.
• Write and review code across the JavaScript ecosystem (see stack below).
• Serve as the tech point-of-contact for internal and client projects.
• Guide sprint planning, roadmap creation, and delivery cycles.
• Lead by example with a founder mentality and high-quality standards.
• Solve problems proactively and wear any hats needed to get the job done.

Tech Stack

You’ll work primarily within JavaScript and its ecosystem:

• JavaScript / TypeScript
• React / Angular
• Node.js / Next.js / Apollo
• …and whatever else fits the challenge best

About You

• 5+ years of hands-on full-stack engineering experience
• 4+ years managing teams, projects, and client communications
• You’ve experienced:
  • Waking up realizing you missed a critical edge case… and fixing it on the spot
  • Git blaming bad code, then realizing it was yours
  • Going militant about a “best practice” only to realize you were wrong
  • Switching from “the one true stack” to “the right tool for the job”
  • Being so good at something you forget it’s hard — until you have to learn something new again
• Fluent written and spoken English (mandatory)
• Strong experience with Agile (Scrum, XP, or Kanban)
• Exceptional ownership, self-management, and problem-solving skills
• You love to build, lead, and continuously improve
